GREETINGS FROM BEIRUT

This publication deals with the issues of cultural representation, taking Beirut / Lebanon / the region as the focus of this project.

Beirut / Lebanon / the region has mainly been represented in stereotypical ways - ranging from orientalism to terrorism. Recent events and political conflicts have drawn more media coverage and attention to the region and thus reiterating existing preconceptions.

By compiling different viewpoints, personal concerns, individual aspects etc. from an insider‘s position and first hand experience, this project attempts to create a facetted and in-depth representation of this place / culture.

Various local artists from different disciplines have contributed to this project, creating a large variety of viewpoints - informative, political, social, cultural, critical, even humorous etc. in image and/or text.
